"Ayyyy!!!"

ATLANTA - I'M COMING.

"To all party people who are happy and free, With Mystery Mix we're makin history"

Make sue you go over to Mystery Mix and check the quite fantastic collection of mixes they've archived from March 04 to December 07. These mixes first appeared online at DJHistory.com

"Created by a diverse band of musical free-thinkers, using only the choicest sonic ingredients, these mixes were originally served up without track-listings – hence the mystery element. After countless hours of head-scratching and beard-stroking, most of the tracks have now been identified – good news for your musical knowledge, bad news for your wants-list."

Bass Boy feat. Trilla - 'Etap Riddim'

At first I thought this was the actual video, then I found out it was a remix... These chicks have done alot on this one, more artists should look into actually commissioning these types of videos, so much more entertaining. This tune is bad.

" New York was his town, and it always would be... "

Woody Allen's 'Manhattan' is one of my favorite films depicting New York City. The cinematography is spot on. It really captures the essence of New York. Whilst trawling through youtube I stumbled across this fantastic pastiche of Jack Kerouac reciting 'Visions of Cody' and 'On The Road' set to the opening sequence of Allen's 1979 classic.

One of my favorite Directors and one of my favorite Writers.

"Go And Grab The Blogroll"

So I've been getting pretty bored of my regular blog list recently; when you have been reading the same blogs for a lengthy period of time, repetition creeps in, boredom and topic over kill whitewash the enjoyment. Although it's important to keep a finger on the pulse in the areas you love and enjoy most, you find that the same concepts, events, topics and issues get rehashed across the board. So I've been digging around for a while now for new and interesting blogs; here are my top 3 new places to procrastinate the day away.

Mitch Epstein - 'Recreation - American Photographs 1973-1988'

The guys in the Duffer of St. George office next door have a book shelf which is a bit of an Aladdin's Cave! With some fantastic photography, coffee table books to make you glee with envy, and a fountain of knowledge for all things Japanese, Work Wear and Americana I could spend hours shooting the breeze with them. They just put me on to this great photographer Mitch Epstein.

Addressing the theme of American recreation, the photos published in this book are a collection of 15 years worth of work document American leisure.

You can purchase 'Recreation' here.

Erin Wasson

Check her website out here, not usually on a Kanye blog vibe about Supermodels but Erin caught my eye on the tube this morning. No, she wasn't sat on the Northern Line unfortunately, now that would have made my morning! she was however featured in today's Guardian Supplement, G2.

Vintage - Mountain Dew

I'm becoming more and more obsessed with vintage gear; furniture, 60s American culture, clothes, looks, style, themes.

Awaydays

For all you Football Casual fans out there make sure you check out the April issue of Maxim Magazine.

It features a historical piece on the rise of Casual Culture which is quite interesting. However not quite as comprehensive as you would have thought. A good read nonetheless. One point it does raise is how Casual Culture was not exported across Europe, this is not actually correct, as many Casual sites document Barcelona fans donning Stone Island and CP Company jackets and the like during the late eighties. Especially now, as the laughable Danny Dyer has shown on his television program 'The Real Football Factories' that especially in Eastern Europe and Russia the firms have now taken on the Casual look themselves; opting for well known Italian brands in light of the British casual look.

One glaring omission from the feature is the lack of Stone Island, probably a key a player in the look as any brand noted. Especially in the early 90s.

In the A-Z list of Casuals this ITV documentary is listed, an interesting insight into the notorious ICF Firm in the 1980s.

Possibly the best feature in the whole magazine is the article on the cinematic birth of Kevin Sampson's Cult Classic 'Awaydays'.

I first read this book when I was about 13. I convinced my Mum to buy it for me, saying it was a "Football" story. Little did she know it was about sex, violence, drugs, music and fashion. Possibly my five favorite topics. A classic story of a confused adolescent, who seeks solace in the revelry of being a member of the firm. Camaraderie with the lads, following Tranmere Rovers is an escape from his drab life working as a Civil Servant. His nihilistic behavior, the consequence of his mother's death, provides a poetic story of miss spent youth.

You can buy Kevin Sampson's fantastic novel here. 'Awaydays'will hit screens on May 22nd, and I think will offer a proper insight into Casual Culture as opposed to the glorified bollocks of 'Green Streets' and the "Are You Trying To Mug Me Off In Front Of My Pals" brovado of 'Football Factory'. Since both films everyone wants to be in a Firm without actually understanding the music, fashion and scene which went with it. Sampson's film is going to set the record straight.

"Big, Bad and Heavy!"

I'm thinking of writing a regular segment of just prose, regarding British street culture, from the 90s to today. We have such a rich and vibrant community in London that is influenced by a whole magnitude of cultures. It needs to be discussed in depth.

Crazy P

Last night I went here:

Saw an amazing show, live house music with a full band makes for a fantastic night of drinking and dancing.

This was the biggest crowd pleaser:

Last Rights Inc from Last Rights Inc on Vimeo.

Frank151 posted this ad for Miami clothing label Last Rights, and according to their sources the guys got in a whole load of trouble for this one.

"Apparently, the FBI, DEA, and other government officials were under the impression that they were dumping real drugs from the planes into the ocean."

What a great viral though. Shot incredibly well, great concept and really emphasizes that whole Miami hood lifestyle. Not just the massive impact drug trafficking has on the region, but the look, feel and elements incorporated into the video offers an authentic portrayal of Miami street culture. The clothing is heavy as well.

Coke Fiend

Clever Coca-Cola advert from the States. American advertisements are often very bland, cheesy, clean-cut, smiley faced, all singing and all dancing cliches. This however is a clever, dark and impressive commercial. We in the UK tend to lead the rest of the World when it comes to creative advertisements. As consumers us Brits are cynics, and see-through the "this product will change your life..." pitch. We want to be engaged between programs, and often the ads become more of a talking point in the living room than the actual show itself. Especially in comparison to the States, we have far less advertisements, and begrudge the short ad break half-way through our scheduled viewing, so we need to be entertained. Coca-Cola have certainly ticked all the boxes with this ad.

Moments

"There is surely nothing other than the single purpose of the present moment. A man's whole life is a succession of moment after moment. If one fully understands the present moment, there will be nothing else to do, and nothing else to pursue."

Suburban Fools, Breaking The Rules, Staying In School

Shout out to Dan and the Fat Lace team for posting this. Straight Up Blog Jackin.

Anyway, Asher Roth? Now I've been on this kid (no homo) for quite sometime. Not to be cliche with the "I've been listening to him since..." but I've known about this kid for a minute, 23rd of July to be precise. I like him, his wordplay is smart and I love the concepts. How can I not relate to a guy that grew up in the burbs, listened to rap music, went to college and loves getting smashed? Booze, Bitches and Black Star.

The first rap record he remembers hearing is Jigga's 'Hard Knock Life' for me it was either;

Run DMC's 'Christmas in Hollis'

Or... Cypress Hill's 'When The Shit Goes Down.'

But like Roth, I'm also interested in history and culture. I can totally converge and relate to Roth's time-traveling to a world of relentless rap, b-boy truism and just some straight up classic rap moments. After seeing this interview I have more respect for Roth. A lot of parallels can be noted in our taste and lifestyles; he's probably the first rapper I completely relate to personally. (NO MUTHA FUCKIN HOMO) More than just his music, I think as a person and an artist Roth is genuine, which is actually quite refreshing in the age of "Blog Rappers", Kanye West's and Fiddy vs. Ross style multi-media internet slews.

Roth has been in London this week, rolling with the man Semtex and hooking up with Chipmunk and Mr. Hudson. Kanye has also been in town for London Fashion Week and kindly passed through the studio to check on his British Boy Wonder. I'm surprised Sem hooked up Roth with Chippdy Chip, an unusual combination, I'm excited to hear what comes of that connect, two very different artists, but an interesting mix of clean UK Grime and College Rap. Watch out for Roth domination.
