Mick Boogie & Terry Urban - 2008 Recap

Mick Boogie has been the most consistent mixtape DJ of 2008. After all the commotion of "Hip-Hop is Dead" - 2008 truly prevailed, putting the backpack murmurs to rest. I post quite a few Mick Boogie tapes and this 2008 recap is a classic, not just for 2008, but i'll put my neck out on the line, claiming it to be one of my favorite mixtapes ever. Mick & Terry chop up the greatest records of the past year, adding that bit of magic you have come to expect when Mick's at the helm. Not a simple compilation, Mick has remixed each and every track to a very high standard with his partner in crime Terry Urban, with cuts from Kid Cudi, Jay-Z, Kanye, MIA, Termanology, Busta, The Roots, Q-Tip and many more, make sure you download this one, its a classic!

2000&GRIME

After a short period in which he seriously fell off, Wiley has certainly come back in a very strong way. 2009 is going to be a very competitive year for Grime. Newham Generals album drops January 19th, Wiley will be dropping something and Dizzee is set to come back bigger and stronger after his first No.1, the track 'Bonkers' tore up every venue on the Dirtee Stank tour. And Durrty Goodz's 'Ultrasound' is out in January also, that means my four favorite spitters are dropping pure heat, I can't wait.

Wiley - 'Westwood Freestyle'

Newham Generals - 'Bell Dem Slags'

Rodney King Pt.2

I visited the Bay Area while I was in Frisco for a week, cool people, cool city, a lot of people are shook when you talk about Oakland, pretty much due to the Blank Panther connotations, but I went to some cool galleries, ate in some nice diners and all round had a pretty pleasent experience.

This shit however is F'd! Oakland stand up! FTP! Oscar Grant RIP!

Some Anti-Pig, Empowering Tracks To Get Your Hatred Levels Up:

Body Count - 'Cop Killer'

NWA - 'Fuck Tha Police'

Public Enemy - 'Fight The Power'

Clash Of The Titans

Wiley vs Doogz! A grime clash of astronomical proportions! Two of the biggest names on the mic have been going back and forth, dropping some seriously heavyweight dubs.

Durrty Goodz is a monster on the mic and I can't wait for 'Ultrasound' to drop as 'Axiom EP' is one of the greatest grime releases of all time. He's an incredibly talented MC with such a range to his delivery, he can spit as quick as anyone in the scene, if not the quickest MC around. Not many can touch him lyrically, or match his flow, whether on Grime, Dancehall, Hip Hop, Dub Step - he takes MCing to new plateaus, he is one of the few Grime MC's which can honestly call themselves, and fulfill the mantra of 'Artist'. Doogz truly showcased his talent and versatility in early 2008 when he tore up Semtex's show on 1xtra, rapping over everything laid out before him. The Takeover Shows Semtex does are few and far between, reserved for only the sickest of talents.

Doogz has a long and deep history in the scene, starting out killing soundbouys on the regular at Jungle dances waaaay back before I knew anything about him. He rose to prominence in the Garage scene with his brother, the infamous, incarcerated Crazy Titch with their collective Boyz In The Hood. They killed every Garage dance around and we're among the true pioneers to truly move the sound to what we understand as Grime today.

The clash with Wiley isn't the pairs first lyrical sparring match, both have clashed in the past during the days before the 'Mixtape Era' when grime MC's seemed to clash every other week - on dubs, on radio, at raves, you know circa '03!

Anyways check out the Dubs below, Doogz goes after Wiley hard but to be entirely honest, I think Wiley has edged this one, especially with lyrics like:

'Policeboys are tapping him
Man thinks why the hell was I backin him
Now he's on the road chattin crap again
and I'm doing 30 years for the prick
ona visit I'll be slappin him'

Check his Wiley diss 'Cokey The Snowman'

Wiley kills him on this though - 'Angry Garden Gnome'

and this 'Wreath'

Regardless of this clash Durrty Goodz is my favorite Grime MC, not many can do what he does - all the doubters go cop Axiom EP!

I stumbled across this fantastic photo blog of sorts. It's not a photo blog as you generally understand it, but just each day a new image is uploaded by Jason Evans, something quirky that catches his eye.
